The all-new "attacking intelligence" that will drive FIFA 13 on consoles and PC will allow players to analyse the surrounding space, penetrate the opposition's defence more sharply and intelligently and think ahead. Virtual players now have the intelligence to extend themselves into space, charge through an arc, or even change the direction of their run to take advantage of windows in the defence. They will try to pull defenders on top of them to open up space for teammates to pass to. They will also get better at finding space to create chances themselves.

The ball handling system in FIFA 13 breaks up the near-perfect ability of every footballer to receive a pass, and overall makes possession much more variable and less predictable. A player's ability to process the ball is now influenced by factors such as the pressure of defending opponents or the trajectory and speed of the ball, opening up more options for defenders.

Attackers, in turn, get an improved dribbling system that allows for precise 360° ball handling, making it easier for them to create more interesting and dangerous situations in 1-on-1 play.

The second-generation Player Impact Engine now controls duels between players without the ball in addition to duels for the ball. Players hold and push, using their height and strength or forcing the opponent to take a bad pass or make a rash decision. The tactical free kick tool in FIFA 13 is designed for the most technically proficient players on the pitch, who can use it to devise and execute dangerous and unpredictable free kicks. Up to three attacking players can now be put on the ball and use false starts or hinted passes to play sophisticated signals in standard situations. However, the opponent can counter them by adding or removing players from the wall, moving it slowly forward or deploying a fast runner to intercept a pass or block a shot.
