Binary Domain is set in the dystopian world of 2080, where players find themselves in Tokyo, which is now infested with robots. The player assumes the role of Dan Marshall, a member of an international team called "Rusty Nail", who is tasked with stopping the production of humanoid robots that violate an international agreement to produce androids indistinguishable from humans.

The game focuses on team play and strategy, where players must work together with their AI-controlled teammates.
