This game still retains the hallmark of a title for really hardcore gamers, albeit in a much different sense than, say, Virtua Fighter 4. On the one hand, there is indisputable evidence that a game can be played well now and then just by randomly hitting buttons, but the relentless statistics are more or less exclusively on the side of those who know what they are doing and what they want to do. In other words, to consistently achieve results at a really high level, you need to know all the moves of your favourite character exactly, and choose from them automatically and subconsciously. At a higher level, you simply don't have time to spend half an hour scratching yourself behind the ear and deciding what and how.

You have to immediately evaluate whether your punch was executed as a counter hit, whether you'll surely knock your opponent to the ground after another one, and based on that you're already pressing other punches, dodges or flips. And that's not all. Of course, you have to know perfectly well the possibilities of all the other characters as well. This is the only way to pull off even the most brutal combos. But that's not all. The human factor also comes into play, as you need to know what combos and strikes your opponent uses most often. So there's a lot going on here, and the only relative plus here is the fact that you can't play several different styles with one character in Tekken. So once again, you're in for a perfectly tuned fighting game...
