In this sequel, Luigi must restore the Crystal Moon, whose destruction has caused friendly spirits to become hostile. The game features several haunted locations, including Gloomy Manor, Haunted Towers and Old Clockworks, where Luigi solves various puzzles, battles ghosts and collects the scattered pieces of the Crystal Moon.

Players can use various tools such as the Poltergust 5000 vacuum cleaner and Strobulb to dazzle the ghosts, or the Dark-Light Device to reveal hidden objects. In addition to the standalone adventure, the game offers a multiplayer ScareScraper mode where players can fight ghosts together, both locally and online.
